The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is holding its 2022 virtual Leadership Forum, The Next Generation of Geoscience Societies:  Views from Early- and Mid-Career Geoscientists and Leadership on Monday and Tuesday, March 28th and 29th. Society presidents, executive directors, and other society leaders including early- and mid-career members of your governing boards, are invited to attend this Forum, which will be held entirely online. The five-hour Forum will extend across two days, each with 2.5-hour sessions. Many of you suggested early- to mid-career geoscientists as panelists or speakers. Each of those individuals you recommended are also receiving this invitation to attend, and some have also received panelist and speaker invitations. Please feel free to forward this invitation to appropriate participants and copy my assistant, Joy Lynch to ensure they receive the forthcoming agenda. 

We are holding this Forum to elevate the discussions taking place across the geoscience federation. It is centered on long-term trends in professional society memberships, which point toward an overall decrease in the coming decade. How will societies respond? This year’s Leadership Forum will focus on exploring strategies and lessons learned, as societies work to retain membership.

The Forum will open with a presentation of the results of the Future of Geosciences survey conducted in early 2021, then move into hearing from several early- to mid-career geoscientists, followed by a moderated roundtable discussion.  On day two, a recap of major points observed during day one will be presented, followed by presentations from five invited geoscience society leaders. After a short break, the final roundtable discussion will commence including eight leaders from across the geoscience federation.
