“Hydrogeology of Shallow Groundwater Contaminant Plumes in Las Vegas, NDEP Guidance, and Cleanup Prioritization” by Ben Moan, Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Corrective Actions Supervisor

Ben Moan, a supervisor with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) Bureau of Corrective Actions – Las Vegas office, will give a PowerPoint presentation on the dynamics of groundwater contaminant plumes in the Las Vegas Valley. The talk will focus on the three pollutants most common in groundwater contamination: benzene, MTBE, and PCE. Plume magnitude and size can vary widely within the Valley. The talk will describe what is known about shallow groundwater in the Valley and how plumes behave in different settings. The talk will also describe the decision making process that NDEP goes through to assess risk from groundwater contamination and to prioritize remediation efforts.
